Is Claude Fable5 included in my plan right now?

From July 20, 2026: Max and Team Premium include Fable 5 for up to 50% of weekly limits. Pro/Team Standard typically need usage credits. API usage is always pay-per-token.

Is Claude Fable5 down?

No — Fable 5 has been back worldwide since July 1, 2026, on the API, Claude apps, Claude Code, and Cowork, with AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry being re-enabled. If a specific answer feels weak, it is more likely the safeguard fallback to Opus 4.8 than an outage — see the checklist below.

Feels downgraded? It might not be an outage

Fable5 silently reroutes some requests to Claude Opus 4.8 when a safety classifier fires. Before reporting an outage, run this check:

  • Does the weak answer involve cybersecurity or biology? Those domains trigger the classifier fallback by design.
  • Is quality normal on other topics in the same session? An outage degrades everything; a fallback only degrades flagged requests.
  • API users: compare response quality against the same prompt sent to Opus 4.8 directly — fallback responses come from that model.
  • Still degraded everywhere with the status feed green? Try a new conversation, then a different channel (API vs app) before reporting it.

Plan access after July 20

The temporary July 7 promotional framing is obsolete. From July 20, 2026, Max and Team Premium permanently include Fable 5 for up to 50% of weekly limits. Pro and Team Standard generally use usage credits. Heavy agent runs can still exhaust the 50% share quickly.
